Summer Self-Care Tips to Make the Most of Summer

July 14, 2022

Summer is one of the most enjoyable times of the year. Here are some tips to help you feel better this summer and enjoy every minute of it.

I’m a hardcore self-care advocate all year round, whether you’re looking for self-care for a girls’ night in during any season or staying in and watching some summer rom coms. But summer is by far one of my favorite seasons to take it easy and pamper myself. Maybe it’s the warm weather or how everyone seems to slow down and loosen up in the summertime, but something about this time of year makes me want to kick off my shoes and drink a pina colada on the beach.

However, everyday adult obligations like work and school can take away from our personal time and make the summer go by in an instant without us really getting to enjoy it. So, this summer, I’m making a conscious effort to practice self-care and treat myself to life’s simple pleasures more often, especially those that really only come about in the summertime.

Without further adieu, here are some ways I’ll be practicing self-care this summer!

Make A List

The start of summer is the perfect time to sit down and make a list of the things you want to do and what you most enjoy about summer. So write a checklist and keep track of your list to make sure you got to do the things you love most about summer. This way you’ll ensure you have a fun-filled summer and don’t let any moment go to waste!

Take Your Morning Routine Outdoors

Getting sunshine in the morning can make all the difference in your day. Not only will it help awaken you, but it can help with our circadian rhythm.

I don’t know about y’all, but I tend to sleep much easier in the summer months because I get a lot more sunlight, allowing me to feel much more tired before bedtime.

Whether it’s enjoying your coffee outdoors, opening your window and embracing that summer sun, or going for a quick walk, getting that morning sunshine will make you feel so much better!

Weekend Trip

Try taking a vacation this summer if you have the time. Even if it’s just a weekend trip to the closest beach, getting out of town for a few days will do you good, and you’ll feel noticeably refreshed and rejuvenated when you return!

Plan to log off from all work responsibilities and try to unplug (see below) to be in the moment. In addition, plan your entire weekend in advance to make sure you make the most out of your weekend trip.

Try to Unplug

Spending time away from our phone screens is never a bad idea, especially during summer. This summer, I’ve made it a personal goal to unplug, especially on the weekends when I am more prone to aimlessly scrolling through my feed! I feel a thousand times better after unplugging and find that on weeks where I am only using my phone for practical uses, I have a much less moody week!

Spend More Time Outdoors

Now is the time to get the vitamin D many of us lack in winter. A morning walk can make a dramatic difference in your day. If you spend all day indoors working, take your lunch break outdoors or use a quick break to walk to a nearby coffee shop and enjoy that sun during your walk!

Enjoy Summer Nights

Whether you are in the suburbs, a beach town, or taking a weekend trip to a beach town, consider a nighttime cookout or a night spent outdoors admiring the warm nights under the stars. As cheesy as it may sound, one of my favorite summer self-care activities is to sit out under the stars on a clear summer night. This always clears my mind in the right kind of way that a self-care activity should.

Fruit!

Fruit is so much more delicious in the summer! I love making big fruit salads to store away in the fridge and get my fix of sweet and nutritious snacks! I know that when I get a well-rounded mix of fruits into my diet that my mood improves;)

Be Kind To Your Body

The summertime is one of those seasons where I tend to find myself more apt or prone to consuming those harmful messages that diet culture relays. This means that it is especially important to be kind to your body and be aware of your media consumption. Follow accounts that inspire you, and unfollow the accounts that make you feel any less than that! Check out these awesome body positivity influencers I love following for more inspiration!
