Packing Essentials for a Trip to Ireland

July 5, 2022

In a little over a week, I will be traveling to Ireland! From its beautiful green landscapes to the rich cultural history of the Emerald Isle, Ireland is one country I’ve been dying to travel to. Not to mention, I come from a very Irish Catholic background, with my Dad’s side of the family being entirely Irish!

So when the idea of a family trip came into discussion, we all concluded that we should visit our roots and see this beautiful island together! My excitement for this trip has grown so much that I have already found myself packing for the trip and began shopping weeks ago, which for me is a pretty big deal to start packing over a week ahead 😉

The thing about Ireland is that no matter when you visit, you can expect cooler temperatures, and, despite being a July trip, I know very well that I will be layering up like no other. The average temps in the summer in Ireland tend to be around the sixties, and rain is to be expected, so rain gear and cardigans it is!

Continue reading to find out some of my fav finds and brands for some of these items that I am packing!

FYI- I will be sure to do a post after Ireland to let y’all know what I ended up getting most use out of for those who aren’t overackers like myself and want the essentials!

Favorite Finds For Ireland:

Accessories aka Umbrella & Raincoat

Ireland is known for getting quite a bit of rain, which is why you should bring an umbrella and a raincoat if you’re planning to take a trip across the pond. So I ordered this umbrella that is perfect for carrying around with its small size.

As for raincoats, I love long rain jackets to help keep more of my long tall self protected or at the very least part of my lower body. I am ordering this long travel rain jacket that is easily packable and allows me to layer up below.

Shoes

For cute, stylish footwear that also happens to be sold in sizes up to 13, check out Blondo! They are a favorite because most of their shoes provide rainproof protection! I love to travel in either Keds or Vans (both of which sell sized 11 & up!) because they are comfy and match nearly all outfits, whether it be a cute sundress and sweater or jeans and a long sleeve T, I know that the vans and keds will be worthwhile to pack!

Travel Purse

TG, the sling bag (aka fanny pack) is back in style for us travelers! Check out this stylish, vegan faux leather sling bag that I am packing for Ireland. This is perf for daily excursions and hikes.

For my favorite travel bags and carry-on, check out my post here on packing tips and hacks

Hats

It may not be the warmest or sunniest of vacation destinations, but if you are like me you still want to shield your face as much as possible, especially if you anticipate being outdoors most days. So check out this affordable floppy sun hat that is perfect for leisurely walks and larger-sized heads!

Coats

My favorite splurge-worthy fall/spring jacket will be packed this trip. Arc’teryx is a splurge-worthy brand that I love for fall/spring outerwear. I have worn this on cooler east coast summer days, and it provides a perfect extra outer layer. Additionally, this brand is completely fur-free, which makes it another splurge-worthy find.

Cardigans

Some of my favorite cardigans, especially oversized, have been found on amazon and at affordable prices. Check out my favorite oversized Amazon cardigan made by QUALFORT for the plane ride. I love the pranayama wrap from Athleta (sold in sizes xx -3XL and tall!) for a soft cardi that is perfect for comfy wear.  I have one from a few seasons ago that is a light green that will be perfect for Ireland.
