Your Ultimate Newport, Rhode Island Guide

July 1, 2022

Are you visiting Newport soon and looking for places to stay, eat, and visit? Check out my list of the best spots in Newport to spend your time at.

I have been lucky enough to have been able to travel a lot in my adult life, and I’ve visited so many cool places. While so many cities are fun to visit and write about, I knew I had to do a mini-guide to Newport, Rhode Island, with the summer season upon us!

Newport, Rhode Island, is one of my favorite day trips/ overnight spots to make a girls’ trip. I have done many shopping days and sightseeing with my mom, sister, aunts, and cousins in Newport, and most recently (pre-pandemic), we had my sister-in-law’s bachelorette weekend in Newport!

In hopes of doing another girl’s day trip to Newport this summer, I have put together a list of my favorite spots to eat, sleep, dine and dance it out for a fun girls’ trip destination! Girls’ trips are like the ultimate form of self-care in my book, so for those who are looking for some summer self-care and happen to be on the east coast or even looking for a bachelorette spot, consider adding Newport, Rhode Island to your list!

Where to Stay

Newport Marriott – I have stayed at this hotel for many nights in Newport, and it is always a good choice, especially on a group trip. The rooms are spacious enough for multiple people or a group of four, and there is a common area for everyone to hang out in, as well as a convenient Starbucks on the premises to grab your morning coffee and go! The location is right on the water, and within walking distance of all the pubs and restaurants you’ll want to visit!

The Cliffside Inn – Soak in the history of Newport during your stay at this charming boutique inn.

Places to Eat

Boat House – Enjoy Newport’s beautiful scenery- and delicious seafood- at this waterfront eatery.

Blount Clam Shack Great casual food for those days when you want to keep things simple.

22 Bowen’s Wine Bar & Grille – This classic harbor tavern will make you forget you’re in Rhode Island!

Things to Do

Cliff Walk – Enjoy the scenery on this 3.5 mile long walk along the cliffs of Newport.

Gooseberry Beach – This is a small, private beach, meaning it’s less crowded than other beaches in Newport! Pack some towels, beach chairs, and a cooler, and pay around $5 dollars for entrance to enjoy a relaxing day at Gooseberry Beach!

O’Brien’s Pub – I usually end up at O’Brien’s Pub for some drinks for both birthday and bachelorette parties! This place is crowded at night, and there is a huge mix of ages, especially in the summertime. When we went for the bachelorette, there was a dance area in the back that was perfect for a girls’ night out!

Morning Mimosa Sail – We did this for my sister-in-law’s bachelorette, and it was the perfect way to wake up and see Newport all from the comfort and excitement of a sailboat! Plus, who doesn’t love mimosa’s?!
