One of my favorite ways to wind down on a summer night is by treating myself to a self-care night in. I love to put on some comfy clothes, wrap myself in a fuzzy blanket, and curl up on the couch with my dogs to watch a movie.
Watching movies is something I grew up enjoying with my family, and it’s a tradition I’ve continued as an adult!
When it comes to the specific genre of movie, it depends a lot upon my mood and the season–who doesn’t love thrillers once the spooky season arrives, and who doesn’t love Christmas movies during the holiday season?!
Typically though, I am always on the hunt for a fun mystery, drama, romance, or thriller. Thankfully, this year has produced a lot of movies filled with drama and mystery that have been unforgettable!
So here are some of the most entertaining movies I’ve watched (so far) this year!
Where the Crawdads Sing
Based on the New York Times bestselling book of the same name, Where the Crawdads Sing is a coming-of-age murder mystery that makes for a great summertime watch.
Where To Watch: Theaters
Deep Water
This mystery stars two big stars, Ana De Armas and Ben Affleck, in a can’t miss performance. If you like mystery and scandal, this movie is for you! It wasn’t a top-fav mystery, but it sure was scandy (scandalous) and mysterious.
Where To Watch: Hulu
The Weekend Away
Gossip Girl’s mean girl (Blair Waldorf) stars in this girls’ trip gone wrong when Leighton Meester wakes up to a messy apartment and her best friend missing. This is a classic “who did it,” and it will have you enthralled from start to finish.
Where To Watch: Netflix
No Exit
No Exit is another mystery thriller about a girl who finds herself stuck in a snowstorm and taking lodge with four other strangers. The main character finds herself in a scary situation when she spots a girl in one of the stranger’s cars. Not knowing who to trust, she tries to find a way to help the young girl to safety.
Where To Watch: Hulu
I Want You Back
I Want Your Back is a light-hearted rom-com we could all use on a weekend night in. If you appreciate sarcastic and self-deprecating humor, then you will enjoy the main characters and their quest to help each other out and win back their exes.
