If you’ve been keeping up with me on Instagram, you’ll know that we recently found out we’re expecting (drumroll, please)… TWO TWIN BOYS!!!
After approaching the midway point of my pregnancy, I can tell you it’s been a bit of a wild ride.
Being that I am well into my second trimester, I am feeling a lot better on average than I was during my first trimester.
Here are some of the biggest differences I have noticed between my first and second trimesters!
Food and Appetite
While I didn’t actually throw up in my first trimester, I struggled with nausea those first few weeks. During that time, I found it hard to keep certain foods down, and my cravings were very very limited since most foods made me want to gag.
Now, I am hungry almost all the time. Interestingly enough, I feel full pretty quickly but then hungry soon after – not sure if it’s the metabolism slowing down for the babies to get food or if it is my organs slowly getting squished, but either way – hanger is a real thing if I go more than a few hours without eating.
Oddly enough, I crave salt all the time. I was more of a sweet tooth before pregnancy and now I want to salt everything. I also have the oddest craving for none other than… mustard. SO strange, I know, but I want it alongside a lot of snack foods.
The only thing that has changed and become more sensitive in the second trimester has been my digestive system when it comes to veggies. I find my stomach extremely sensitive and have been dealing with digestive issues when I have raw veggies, which is a challenge since I love salads.
Energy
While my energy has definitely increased since my first trimester, I still find myself being more of a homebody these days and not having a strong desire to socialize. As far as exercise goes, I still try to get in a daily walk or two to get my heart pumping, but I try not to over-exert myself to stay on the safe side of things. Plus, it’s been getting a little harder to move around with this growing twin belly of mine!
Mood
I have more energy to experience more emotions, which can at times feel overwhelming. I think my mood swings are far greater than they were in the first trimester. Part of that has been due to the fact that I have struggled to deal with my body changing so rapidly and my body really is in the middle of the second trimester, and another part of it is due to the rapid change in hormones and hormone fluctuations. I can go from feeling totally fine to suddenly crying. That has been one of the bigger challenges in the second trimester.
Sex Drive
With my increase in energy, my sex drive has increased. I went from in the first trimester quite literally not wanting to be touched whatsoever to now feeling closer to back to normal. It definitely fluctuates and some days I feel more fatigued and just want to go to sleep but I feel a whole lot better and less anxious about my sex drive being gone for good like I did the first trimester.
