Struggling with the wild symptoms of your first trimester of pregnancy? Here are a few household staples that have helped me through my first trimester.
As someone who is currently pregnant and just entered my second trimester, I feel like I have gained A LOT of useful knowledge and wisdom over the past few months.
Being pregnant for the first time is such a wild ride, because overnight you go from not knowing what being pregnant is like to suddenly taking on the biggest responsibility of your life. I even put together a journal of my first-trimester pregnancy symptoms week by week to help track how I felt and allow other women to compare their experiences.
Like many women, I’ve mostly experienced normal symptoms like morning sickness, fatigue, and weird food cravings in the first trimester.
For all of my fellow pregnant and first-time moms out there, I thought I’d put together a list of my my personal first-trimester must-haves that worked for me during those first few months. If you have any recommendations that I didn’t mention, please feel free to drop a comment and help your fellow mamas out!
Prenatal Vitamins
While many doctors recommend starting a prenatal vitamin when you start trying to conceive, many women only start taking them once they find out they’re expecting. If you fall into the latter category, talk to your doctor to find out if there are any specific prenatals they recommend you take.
Digestive Supplements
This has been a necessity for me! I started to experience constipation pretty early on and once I incorporated a supplement that was approved by my doc it was a game changer. It helped with regulation in addition to drinking lots of water.
Pregnancy Pillow
One of the things I was quick to learn about was the position in which you need to sleep as you get further along in your pregnancy. I ordered this pregnancy pillow to help as it was an Amazon top choice and I LOVE it!
Ginger ANYTHING
Whenever I felt a wave of nausea, I’d pop a ginger candy into my mouth. Ginger has been said to relieve morning sickness symptoms for many women, so be sure to pick up a bag of ginger candies, ginger ale, or anything else with ginger in it the next time you’re at the store.
A Gentle Toothbrush
One of the weirdest pregnancy side effects is sore or bleeding gums, and a regular toothbrush can feel like sandpaper against your gums in your first trimester. Luckily, there are special toothbrushes made for pregnant women on the market, my personal favorite being the Brilliant Sensitive Toothbrush for Expectant Moms.
