How I Deal With Change; Eight Quotes That Help My Anxiety

August 4, 2022

Change is a scary constant in life. Thankfully, these quotes have helped me to accept change in my life and they can help you too.

As humans, we crave certainty. Our survival instincts have conditioned us to seek familiarity and see change and the unknown as potential threats. Add on lifelong anxiety and new changes, such as coping with relationship anxiety, and those feelings surrounding change have been heightened to the max—exacerbating that fight or flight response.

For most of my twenties, I found myself turning to unhealthy and self-destructive coping mechanisms to adapt to change–particularly those coping mechanisms that led me to seek out extreme control over my body to find a false sense of security and control in life.

The biggest learning curve for me came when I entered my late twenties and began to seek out healthier habits and coping mechanisms to help ease that anxiety surrounding change instead of trying to control everything I possibly could. As cliché and as small as it may sound, one of the more effective coping skills I have found to help in times of change is seeking out words of wisdom or quotes to help reframe my mindset and see things from a new perspective.

As my years in therapy have shown me, our thoughts impact our behavior, so why not work on how we label change and frame it in our brains to help lead to a healthier, happier outcome? While there are many famous quotes out there, I figured I would share the quotes that have helped me in the hardest times by pushing past my fears and embracing change for what it is: a new opportunity.
