Clean Beauty Hack: Coconut Oil

September 12, 2022

Discover the wonders of coconut oil as I illustrate some of my favorite uses for coconut oil and why it’s my favorite beauty hack.

When it comes to holy grail products, coconut oil is definitely in my top five. I mean, what other product can you use in the kitchen and on your face?!

I remember coconut oil being a big thing in the beauty community in the early 2010s, with so many YouTubers I followed talking about the many uses of this miracle oil. After finally picking up a jar at my local grocery store, I was excited to try it out to see if it lived up to the hype. (Spoiler alert: it did!). Here are some of my personal favorite ways to use coconut oil in my clean beauty regimen.

Healing Skin

One time, I had a deep cut on my face and was afraid it would leave a permanent scar. I applied coconut oil to it and voila, it healed and no scar remained! I am no doctor but I am pretty sure in my case that the coconut oil was the reason.

Oil Pulling

Oil pulling really had a moment in the early 2010s, and it seemed like everyone from A-list celebrities to my friends was talking about this mysterious new hygiene trend. Oil pulling involves swishing coconut oil around your mouth and teeth for several minutes before spitting it out. It’s said to give your teeth a deep clean that just brushing alone wouldn’t be able to provide, and I do have to say my teeth feel extra clean whenever I oil pull!

Hair Serum

If my ends are looking a little dull or dry, I’ll scoop a tiny bit of coconut oil into my hands and smooth it onto my hair for an instant boost of shine and hydration. If you’re worried about the oil making your hair look greasy, just be sure to only use a tiny bit and don’t put it near your roots. Don’t knock it till you try it! Personally, I apply conditioner and then add coconut oil and then top it off with conditioner and leave it in for five minutes to try to capture the moisture.
